[Official] Lazio Sign Daniel Maldini On Loan From Atalanta To Boost Their Attacking Options
Lazio have officially completed the signing of Daniel Maldini from Atalanta, adding a new attacking option to Maurizio Sarri’s squad. The 24 year old will wear the number 27 shirt in Rome.
The deal has been agreed as a loan worth €1 million, with Lazio holding an option to buy for €10 million, plus up to €2 million in bonuses. If Lazio decide to make the move permanent, Maldini is expected to sign a contract running until 2030, with a reported salary of around €1.4 million per year.
Maldini arrives after a season where he struggled to find consistent minutes in Bergamo. He has registered one assist in 11 appearances this campaign, but his playing time has been affected by strong competition and changes in the technical project. Atalanta only signed him last winter from Monza for €10 million, yet his role never became fully stable.
The move to Lazio offers a clear new path. Maldini is a third generation footballer who developed in AC Milan’s academy, then built experience through loans at Spezia and Empoli before joining Monza in January 2024. His spell at Monza was positive enough to earn him a senior Italy debut, and Lazio are now betting that he can rediscover that same confidence in a calmer environment.
From a tactical point of view, Sarri will see Maldini as a useful piece in his 4-3-3 system. The plan is for him to provide cover and competition on the left side of the attack, mainly as an understudy to Mattia Zaccagni, while also offering flexibility to play in more central pockets when needed.
For Lazio, this is a low risk move with a controlled cost, but with clear upside. For Maldini, it is a chance to reset his season, win a defined role, and prove he can be more than just a famous surname.
