[Official] Mandas Joins Bournemouth On Loan From Lazio In Search Of Regular Minutes

Bournemouth have confirmed the signing of Christos Mandas from Lazio on a loan deal that will run until the end of the season, giving the Greek goalkeeper a chance to play regularly after a quiet first half of the campaign in Rome.

The Premier League club presented the move as a clear statement of intent. Tiago Pinto, Bournemouth’s Head of Football Operations, explained that the Cherries wanted to raise both the level and the depth of their squad, and he believes Mandas can deliver.

“He’s demonstrated his ability at the highest level with Lazio and the Greek national team. We’re excited about the impact he can make,” Pinto said on Bournemouth’s official website.

For Mandas, this is a fresh start after a frustrating period at the Stadio Olimpico. The 24 year old joined Lazio from OFI Crete in the summer of 2023 and went on to collect 33 appearances in Biancoceleste colors. But since Maurizio Sarri returned to the bench last summer, Mandas has found minutes hard to come by, featuring only once this season, in the Coppa Italia.

Financially, the operation could turn into a major deal. Reports suggest Bournemouth are paying around 3 million euros in loan fees, while the option to buy is believed to be close to 18 million euros. There is also talk of conditions that could turn the option into an obligation, linked to Bournemouth qualifying for European competition and Mandas reaching a set number of appearances.

Beyond the numbers, there is a small piece of club history too. Mandas is the first Greek player to join Bournemouth, and he will wear the number 29 shirt under Andoni Iraola as he begins a new chapter in England.
