[Official] Lazio Confirm Permanent Transfer Of Vecino To Celta Vigo
S.S. Lazio have confirmed that MatÃas Vecino has completed a permanent move to Real Club Celta de Vigo, bringing his spell in Rome to an end. In an official statement, Lazio said the midfielder has been sold on a permanent basis, with the transfer subject to international clearance, and the club also included a clear thank you message for his time in Biancoceleste colours.
Vecino arrived in the summer of 2022 and leaves with a strong body of work behind him. Lazio’s statement credits him with 128 appearances and 13 goals, numbers that underline how regularly he featured across multiple competitions during his stay at the Stadio Olimpico.
This move also fits the wider pattern of Lazio’s winter reshuffle. In recent weeks, the club have already confirmed the permanent sale of ValentÃn Castellanos to West Ham United, the permanent transfer of Mattéo Guendouzi to Fenerbahçe S.K., and the loan move of Christos Mandas to AFC Bournemouth.
There is also a contract angle behind Vecino’s exit. Lazio had announced in June 2025 that he renewed his deal until June 2026, with an option for an additional season until June 2027. With that timeline in mind, Celta’s decision to act now makes sense, especially as clubs can still complete certain moves even after the Serie A window closes.
Vecino, for his part, kept his goodbye simple and emotional. In a short message posted under the club’s farewell content, he thanked everyone “from the bottom of my heart” and signed off with “Always Forza Lazio,” closing the chapter with affection rather than controversy.
