Taylor: "It’s Nice To Be In The Starting Eleven, It’s What We Train And Play For Every Day. Serie A Isn’t Over, Though, And We’ll Try Our Best To Climb The Standings."
Kenneth Taylor has spoken about his fast start at Lazio, admitting he did not expect to become a regular starter so quickly after arriving in Rome. In an interview with Sky Sport, the Dutch midfielder reflected on his first month in Biancoceleste and made it clear that Lazio’s priorities for the run in are split, with the Coppa Italia described as the main objective while the league remains a target for improvement.
“Obviously, it’s nice to be in the starting eleven, it’s what we train and play for every day,” Taylor said. “Honestly, I didn’t expect it so soon, but I always try to give my all in matches and demonstrate what I can do in training. Then, in the end, it’s always the coach who decides.”
Taylor also explained what Maurizio Sarri is demanding from him on the pitch. “The coach asks me to participate in both the defensive and build up phases,” he said, before highlighting an area where he wants to raise his level. “I’m working hard, especially on the defensive side, where I believe I can still improve a lot.” For Taylor, that growth is tied directly to performance goals and team outcomes. “Every professional wants to always be at the top, to grow personally and help the team.”
On Lazio’s targets between now and the end of the season, Taylor was direct and pragmatic. “We want to finish as high as possible in the standings, even though our main goal remains the Coppa Italia,” he said. “Serie A isn’t over, though, and we’ll try our best to climb the standings.”
Finally, he touched on the impact of the supporters, calling the stadium atmosphere a real competitive factor. “A full stadium gives the team a huge boost, it’s a very important factor,” Taylor explained. “Playing without fans, on the other hand, I think affected us a bit.”
For Lazio, Taylor’s interview reads like a snapshot of a player settling quickly into Sarri’s demands while also understanding the reality of the club’s season. He is already a starter, he is already being asked to do the hard work in both phases, and he is already aligned with the message coming out of Formello: the league matters, but the clearest route to a successful season is still through the Coppa Italia.
