[Serie A] Torino - Lazio = 2 - 0

Lazio’s trip to Turin ended in a frustrating 2–0 defeat on Sunday, March 1, as Torino took advantage of two key moments to secure a comfortable win at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. Giovanni Simeone broke the deadlock in the first half, and Duván Zapata doubled the lead early in the second, leaving Maurizio Sarri’s men without an answer across 90 minutes.

The result also delivered the ideal start for Torino’s new coach Roberto D’Aversa, appointed during the week after the club replaced Marco Baroni.

Torino started with more bite and were rewarded in the 21st minute. After a situation inside the Lazio box, the ball fell kindly and Simeone reacted fastest to finish from close range, putting the hosts 1–0 up.

Lazio tried to steady themselves before the break, but Torino stayed compact and limited the quality of chances. The visitors’ pressure did not translate into a clear route to goal, and the game went into halftime with Torino still in control.

Eight minutes after the restart, Torino struck again. Rafa Obrador delivered a cross from the left, Zapata attacked the space and powered home a header for 2–0, a decisive blow given Lazio’s ongoing struggles in the final third.

Lazio did push late, and there was at least one moment where they came close to changing the mood. Alessio Romagnoli’s header forced an impressive save from Alberto Paleari, but that proved to be as good as it got for Sarri’s side.

The win moved Torino to 30 points after 27 matches, giving them breathing space away from the bottom end of the table. Lazio remain on 34 points after 27 matches, and another dropped result makes their climb toward the European places increasingly complicated.

For Lazio, it was a familiar script. They had phases of possession, but too little penetration, and once they went behind, they never looked like a side capable of flipping the match. With the Coppa Italia semi final first leg against Atalanta approaching, Sarri now has to find a response quickly, both mentally and tactically.
