[Official] Lazio May Meet Roma In The Quarter-finals Of The Upcoming Coppa Italia

Despite the recent conclusion of the 2022/2023 season, preparations for the next season are already underway. Although the official dates have not yet been released, a tentative scoreboard for the 2023/2024 Italian Cup can already be constructed. The last edition was won by Inter, who beat Fiorentina 2-1 in Rome.

There will be no changes to the regulation of the Coppa Italia for the upcoming season. 44 teams are set to participate, with 20 teams from Serie A, 20 from Serie B, and an additional 4 clubs from Serie C. The teams will be divided into 3 groups: 8 will begin with the preliminary round, 28 start from the 32nd finals, and the remaining 8 will join in at the round of 16. The pairings of the teams will not be determined by draws, but rather through a ranking system. The holder of the trophy, Inter, will be ranked as number one, while the other teams' positions will be based on their standings in Serie A. The top 8 teams in the latest ranking include Inter, Napoli, Lazio, Milan, Atalanta, Roma, Juventus, and Fiorentina.

In the quarterfinals, there is a possibility of a derby match between Roma and Lazio. The Biancoceleste, on the other side, may cross paths first with their icon, Alessandro Nesta, current coach of Reggiana, who will begin in the preliminary round against Virtus Entella.

The competition will begin at the end of the month, pending the official dates that will be notified in the coming days, with the preliminary rounds taking place first and immediately following the 32nds, with the team with the higher rank playing the match at home.
