[Official] Lazio Loaned Cancellieri To Empoli In Order To Give Him More Playing Time

Lazio are reported to have officially released young striker Matteo Cancellieri to Empoli as a player on loan. His contract also includes an option to be bought out. Cancellieri did not receive a lot of playing time with the capital team last season and was excluded from Maurizio Sarri's plans for this season.

Last summer, the Italian club brought in a 21-year-old striker from Hellas Verona, but he had difficulty earning a spot on the main team. He did not receive many chances to play during the 2022/23 season from Maurizio Sarri

Despite making appearances 30 times, Cancellieri only played a total of 602 minutes. This was not sufficient time for him to grow and improve as a player or to perform well for the Biancoceleste. As a result, he left the team during the summer.

Empoli has recently made an announcement that Cancellieri has joined their team on loan from The Aquile. His contract includes an option to buy for 12 Million Euros. Additionally, the Roman club retains a buy-back option for 20 Million Euros, which gives them control over the player if he performs well during his time in Tuscany.

Empoli finished 14th in the Serie A standings last season and are noted for fostering young talent, with recent examples including Fabiano Parisi and Tommaso Baldanzi.
