Is It Declining Form Or Fitness Concerns? Immobile's Spot In Italy's National Team Could Be In Jeopardy

Italian fans are currently focusing on Ciro Immobile's underwhelming performance with Lazio. The 34-year-old striker's position in the Italian national team squad for Euro 2024 in Germany is at risk due to his recent struggles.

Immobile, who was made captain by coach Luciano Spalletti last September, failed to score in Lazio's 2-0 loss to Juventus in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg. With only six goals in 26 Serie A matches this season, there are questions about whether Immobile is declining in form or facing fitness issues.

According to a report from Transfer Market Web (TMW), Immobile's chances of making the 23-man Euro 2024 squad are diminishing, especially considering his inconsistent goal-scoring record. His last appearance for the national team was in September 2023, and he faces competition from younger talents like Giacomo Raspadori, Mateo Retegui, Gianluca Scamacca, and Moise Kean.

Besides international competition, Immobile is also under pressure from Valentin Castellanos, who is excelling with Lazio. Rumors of a transfer to Inter Milan are circulating ahead of the summer transfer window.

However, due to his seniority and respect within the Italian national team, Spalletti may still include Immobile in the Azzurri squad, albeit possibly as a bench player.
